Story

On 9th-10th June 2015 our team of six cyclists will tackle an epic 24hr endurance event from Silverstone to Le Mans to raise money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND/ALS) research. We are writing to ask for your help in this major undertaking.
That help, most importantly, could be in donating to help cure MND (The Heaton-Ellis Trust, registered charity no. 1126534) via this JustGiving page. All donations will be enormously appreciated and will also be acknowledged in the extensive press coverage of the event.  Help could also be in the form of supplying equipment (food/drink, equipment, transport, t-shirts, logos for support van, etc).
This adventure stems from the story of our good friend, Neil Cunningham (a successful racer/stunt driver - competing at Le Mans numerous times - and surfer) with a young family, two daughters and a son, who has been bravely battling MND over the last 4 years.  Over the last 3 years and in combination with two other events similar to 24hrs to Le Mans, Neil’s dedicated charity Racing4MND.org has incredibly raised over £90,000 for the Heaton-Ellis Trust.
The impacts of Motor Neurone Disease affects old and young alike, it can occur at any age to people who are normally fit and healthy and they don’t know why.  However recent advances in research have given hope that a cure to the disease is imminent.  Additionally, this research will help to advance a cure for Parkinson’s disease; Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis and Huntington’s disease will also benefit from the genetic research undertaken. Younger generations with MND could be the first with hope of cure. But without funds, the possibility of a cure will continue to remain a distant dream for many generations to come. It should be noted that The Heaton-Ellis Trust has no overheads and all donations are matched by 3x from corporate funding.
Please join our campaign to help make achieving this goal possible; and following on from the recent MND/ALS ‘ice bucket challenge’ and the Oscar nominated film ‘Theory About Everything’ we hope to keep the awareness of MND/ALS in the public eye.
The endurance event we have chosen for our fundraiser is gruelling to say the least. It couples the race tracks at which Neil excelled as a driver, Silverstone in the UK and the French track at Le Mans, and incorporates the World Famous 24hr challenge at Le Mans (for which Neil was also famed for racing).  We’re cycling over 220miles across the Continent in 24hrs. Now surely that’s got to be worth a couple of quid eh?
Following previous successful events, we are confident this is a suitably unique challenge which will attract immense and invaluable publicity both for the cause, and for you as a sponsor.  The progress of the event will be streamed live via Facebook, Twitter, press, radio and television.
