Story

Hi All

A quick note to say that the London Marathon has been safely negotiated. A fantastic, inspirational day. The sun shone, the crowds were massive and particularly vociferous, perhaps partly in defiance of what happened in Boston and the atmosphere was as good as any sport event I’ve witnessed.. It's 3 days now and the legs are slightly better than yesterday but my walking down the stairs can be best be described as pedestrian and probably more accurately as ridiculous - still a stuttering sideways descent..

Thank you very much if you’ve given, it’s really appreciated and the good news is that it’s not too late for any of you that fancy donating. Sam Beare Hospice do an amazing job caring for people during their last few days. Our family was touched by their service and many more have been since and will be in the future..

Once again thanks a lot and if you fancy a jog round London, the ballot opens on 29 April for 2014 – be quick though as it’s sure to be full before 5pm

Many thanks

Nick

Sam Beare rely on donations to operate the amazing service they provided for the Maughan family during Mary's last few days. The staff showed incredible compassion, how they continue to display that level of care I simply can't imagine. I was inspired to try to help, what can I do I wondered? "Run the marathon" said the little devil on my shoulder, as there didn't appear to be a contrary voice from the other shoulder that was the decision.

So I ran it, for the first time in 2010 where my total lack of experience I think helped, absolutely no idea what the challenge would entail. Puppy like enthusiasm making up for my long distance ignorance. 2012 was to be part 2, however a bout of laryngitis picked up a couple of days before the big day stymied that plan.

So it's back on, again!! In an attempt to get more funds for Sam Beare the full 26.2 miles will be completed on 21 April. Training has been OK so far but yesterday was the longest run so far in training and it was 22 excruciating miles, at no stage comfortable or enjoyable, in fact downright painful at times - by far the worst run by far..

So..... for once..... it doesn't feel too cheeky to ask for a donation to help this great cause.   I would certainly have given generously to have not had to do that run so please view the donation as a nice way avoid the need of such ridiculousness whilst you put your feet up and scoff all those lovely Easter Eggs.
