Story

Update: we have decided to make this an annual event. We have decided that this will be an ongoing donation page.

This is going to be our hardest fundraising challenge yet.

The 28th July 2010 was the day that I decided to take on a car; the most difficult experience of my life and that was why I needed the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. After misjudging the distance between me a moving vehicle, I was knocked and with a clear broken femur, dilated pupil, hard stomach (signs of internal bleeding) and signs of a brain injury, the ambulance decided to play safe and get me an air ambulance to hospital. At the L.G.I I had to be sedated for a c.t scan (to check my head and insides for damage) which showed a large swelling on my brain; it was then that I was even more grateful for the air ambulance transporting me to hospital so quickly .

I'm thankful to all my family for being patient with me and helping me through this difficult time and all the people who also helped my family. I can't imagine how hard this must have been for everyone. I'm thankful to all the NHS staff that work endlessly to care for people, because of all of you I have gone from crying to communicate to nonstop talking. I am thankful for all the individuals that take time out of their lives to raise money for the charities that do such remarkable work. I am thankful for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance for coming and picking me up and transporting me swiftly to the L.G.I.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance also flew Ben's sister to L.G.I hospital this year after a motor bike accident, so another reason they mean so much and we need to say 'thank you'.

That is where my fundraising challenge comes in. This year, the 28th July marks 11 years since I was helped by the air ambulance, I will be walking the journey, estimated around 20 miles (8 hours) that the air ambulance flew me. I am teaming up with a few family/friends and we will walk from the Eversley Park Centre, Sherburn in Elmet to Leeds General Infirmary. The route that we will take is not yet fully decided, as we need to find one that will be safest for us, but I will share it with you all when you we get it. It is going to take planning, lots of planning and persistence on the day but I really think we can do it together as a team.

I would be extremely grateful if everyone could support my challenge and sponsor me in my dream of raising money for the air ambulance, as I will always feel in debt to them.
