I’m Luke.  I work in Beckley, WV to provide clean water and sanitation for my community.  I’m so grateful to be a part of this work, and I’m burdened for people all over the world, who live without these gifts.  

I find I am often far too comfortable in my life, with little thought for those who are suffering around me.  Clean water and sanitation can prevent a host of common, but deadly diseases.  In many parts of the world, families must take the time to gather water, often from unclean or unreliable sources.  This burden usually falls to women and girls, and prevents them from continuing their education.  A reliable water source helps relieve a daily burden of gathering water, which enables families to send their children to school, rather than to collect water.  In these and other ways, clean and reliable water transforms a community.

I celebrate my 29th birthday this January.  For 29 days (Jan 2nd through 30th), I’ll be walking one mile each day, carrying full water jugs with me, to represent the water-collecting walk of millions around the world.  

29 miles in 29 days.  To represent 29 years I have lived with the gift of water, and to work toward bringing that gift to those who need it still.  29 days to think of our neighbors around the world.  29 days to help shoulder their burden.  29 days to help change their lives.
