Story

After making our debut in 2011 and finishing a very respectable 2nd in the men's 10 mile, we returned last year with the aim of not only coming 1st but beating the ladies team again.

Unfortunately we failed on both accounts and we had to have a serious re-think of our strategy going into the 2013 event. We have decided to field 2 boats of 4 to take us to the next level.

This year we have Dan, Jamie & James (plus one more) joining us. I am pretty sure they will make a vital contribution to the event and row us to victory..

We're doing this for many reasons. The prize of victory, giving the ladies team some grief when we beat them again and the fantastic weekend we have with our friends. However, the real reason we do this is to raise as much money as possible for St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds (http://www.st-gemma.co.uk/)

The route is 10 miles from Ambleside to Bowness and back - sounds simple but the boats are wooden and rickety, some of us have never rowed on water before and it remains to be seen if pint-lifting is an effective training method. Our test last year was inconclusive as our navigation system failed! (Billy was our navigator last year).

The event is organised by St Gemma's Hospice. They provide specialist medical and nursing care for people with life threatening illnesses, along with support for their families. So please help us support their work by digging deep and sponsoring us as we take up the challenge.

Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.

Thank you for your support,
