Story
In 2018 I will be running 3 Half Marathons in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK - in Bath (March), Berlin (April) and Plymouth (May).
There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This will soar to 2 million by 2051. 225,000 people will develop dementia this year, that's one every three minutes.
Over the last few years I have seen a family member deteriorate because of dementia and wanted to do what little I can to help raise funds for research into this area which is going to have growing importance.
Here are some examples of what donations could support:
- £20 could fund one hour of vital research
- £50 could provide access to specialist equipment for studying cells
- £120 could support complex protein analysis
- £300 could pay for a genetic test to help identify risk genes
