32x5k Week · 28 April 2022

Our mission is to improve and enhance patient care at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland. We help make the hospital a more therapeutic and less intimidating environment by funding items that the NHS cannot provide.

Story

32 x 5k Week

What?

The challenge is running 5k in every county in the island of Ireland in a week.

This consists of 32 runs of 5k totalling to 160k in a week whilst driving between every county which will amount to over 1500k of driving during the challenge.

All runs can be tracked on the strava app.(link posted below) Also they can be viewed on the update section below.

All runs targeted to be completed in under 30mins

Who?

Eoghan O'Neill from Co. Derry and he has got his friend Sean Hassan to run with him for the 1st 4 days.

Why?

The idea originally was 5k a day in May which was 31 runs. Then the idea of running the 32 counties came from that.

We figured the less time taken to complete the challenge the tougher it will be and in turn increase the interest.

The interest is vitally important as we are intending to raise as much money as we can for Friends of Altnagelvin.

When?

The first run will begin on the morning of the 28th April.

The charity

Friends of Altnagelvin - A charity local to the lads that both their immediate families have had experience with.
Eoghans father in law, Bob Mullan was tended for in the hospital before his death last year. Also his son Tomás spent some time in the hospital on numerous occasions as an infant and he has seen first hand how the charity benefits the families of the patients.
