Story

Last year I was diagnosed with cancer. I knew the statistics and I knew that having lost both my parents to cancer could somehow increase my chance to get affected but....I was still shocked!  After all, I had always led a relatively healthy lifestyle, not smoking nor drinking, eating properly, being active, and yet....cancer does not discriminate!  Raising awareness is no longer necessary, we have all been touched by it in some way, a friend, a family member, a relative or a colleague...many of which are no longer with us. For me, things went well!

Fortunately I went to see my GP as soon as I realised that there was something wrong, I was swiftly referred and diagnosed at an early stage, which helped enormously. I would encourage anyone to act upon and don't ignore any signals your body might send you! Thanks to the amazing team at Addenbrooks hospital I am now well and back on my feet! I wouldn't be without the incredible care I received!

I now feel fit and ready to challenge myself in one of my favourite ways: getting lost in nature! I am aiming at raising funds for the Charitable Trust by completing these first 3 adventures within the year 2020, as part of my longer term ambition to traverse all 15 UK National Parks (with the exception of the 16th newly created, the City of London)

This is the plan for 2020: my first adventure will be a solo winter traverse of the Exmoor National Park, across open moorland and forested areas, covering almost entirely the widest part of the park (50 miles approx. omitting the margins where roads, villages and farmland are abundant). My second adventure will be a solo traverse of the New Forest National Park by bicycle, seeking the least frequented unpaved cycle tracks (approx 100 miles). My third adventure will involve kayaking the rivers Waveney, Bure and Ant to cross the Norfolk Broad National Park, roughly South to North, via one of the longest waterway itinerary in the Park (approx 140 miles).

I would enormously appreciate your support with donations which will be helping Addenbrooks give a future back to more and more cancer patients!

100% of donations will go to the Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust.

About the charity

We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.
