Story

Hi / Kia Ora !

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Please sponsor us to run the 26.2 miles of the Liverpool Marathon with one leg tied to each other! You read that right, a three legged marathon!

The Story:

At December’s Red Cross Giggle Aid comedy event (www.redcross.org.uk/Giggle) the end of show charity auction went horribly wrong...

With a marathon entry amongst the items up for grabs, the audience abruptly changed the rules, bidding £100 if organiser Max Newton ran the marathon, upped to £150 if Compere Sully O’Sullivan did, with £250 being pledged if they ran it as a 3 legged race.

The Runners:

So here we are; Max has run full marathons before, comedian Sully has never run more than 10 miles, well okay 5 miles, okay kilometres. But don’t worry it’s not like Max will have to drag him along the marathon course, well not for more than half of it, maybe 3 quarters. On the upside if he does need medical attention the Red Cross will be on hand.

Sully and Max first met when the Kiwi comedian was organising fundraising gigs to help his fellow countrymen in the aftermath of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake. Over the years they’ve put on numerous events raising thousands for the Red Cross, but even they’ll admit they’ve never done anything as stupid as this.

The Charity:

The British Red Cross provide critical help to people overseas and in the UK whose lives have been devastated or made extremely vulnerable by crises and disasters - www.redcross.org.uk

These range from illness or injury (they loan wheelchairs) to house fires, floods, extreme weather, earthquakes, typhoons and tsunamis. In recent years overseas disasters have included: a massive earthquake in Nepal; the terrible Ebola outbreak in West Africa; the European refugee crisis; and the utter devastation of Syria by civil war.

Closer to home the Red Cross has responded to widespread flooding in the South West of England, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and more recently in Lincolnshire and Essex.

It’s a big challenge and a fantastic cause - so please sponsor us!

JustGiving:

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity - saving time and cutting costs for the charity themselves.

Donations & Forfeits:

When you donate, feel free to make it clear if you're donating for Max or Sully, so whoever raises the least can perform an appropriate forfeit!

Current forfeits stand as:
If New Zealander Sully O'Sullivan raises the least money he will run the entire marathon dressed head to toe in Australian colours.

If Nottingham Forest season ticket holder Max raises the least money his marathon attire will show his undying love for Derby County F.C.

As suggested by Laura Summers, if for any reason the marathon is not completed, both Max & Sully will participate in this year's World Naked Bike Ride.

Thank’s a lot, we’ll see you at the finish line (hopefully)

Sully O'Sullivan and Max Newton
