We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

2016, a year none of us will forget. Tragic on a global scale but truly devastating on a personal one for us.

Last year two of our loved ones, Nicki and Jess, lost their battle to their brain tumour diagnoses and died of glioblastoma brain tumours. Glioblastomas are the most aggressive of the malignant brain tumours and sadly no cure to be found.

FACT: Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to brain tumours and tragically took the lives of two loved ones.

Nicki Waterman, one of the UK's foremost fitness experts and The Sun columnist, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumour in 2015. Pioneering immunotherapy treatment prolonged her life and she was able to see her son marry and spend time with her precious grandchildren, before rapidly declining. Nicki died in August 2016, just 15 months after her diagnosis.

Jess was a newly qualified primary school teacher and in 2012 was diagnosed at just the age of 23 with a glioblastoma multiforme. Her battle against the disease was extensive. Jess had 6 brain surgeries, maximum radio and chemo therapy treatments, partook a in clinical trial, endless tests and scans although no treatment could manage her disease and she sadly died 4 years later, aged 27.

Nicki and Jess both taken from us far too soon have left family and friends that knew them simply heartbroken.

We are determined to put our efforts in to support and raise funds for the Nicki Waterman Foundation which raises money for Brain Tumour Research; and to honour Nicki’s commitment to fitness on the 8th July our team will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge. We will be climbing 3 mountains, in total 26 miles, over 24 hours, with 0 sleep!
