3 Peaks Ultra 4 CRUK · 12 March 2018

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

Our 2018 fundraising challenge is also to increase awareness of Cancer Research UK’s bold ambition of 3 in 4 people surviving cancer by 2034. All funds donated will go to CRUK (we pay all our own costs) and 80p in every £1 that CRUK receive from donations, goes to fund vital research.

Many of you will be familiar with the traditional ‘3 Peaks’ event, which involves climbing the 3 highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in 24 hours, driving from one peak to the next. Rather than driving, we’ve decided to get back on our bikes and cycle between each of the peaks. We’ll be undertaking this fundraising challenge for Cancer Research UK in August; it will involve hiking 25 miles, and cycling almost 500 miles, with a total elevation gain of 33,000 ft (more than the height of Everest).

The whole challenge will take us 8 days. We will be finishing this challenge by climbing Snowdon on Monday 27th August (Bank Holiday Monday). If anyone would like to join us at Snowdon, we’d love to see you. If you’re feeling energetic you could climb up and down with us, for those not feeling too energetic you could take the train up and join us walking down, or if you’d like to get the train both ways, we’d love to see you at the top

There have been significant improvements in cancer outcomes over the last few decades. In the 1970’s 1 in 4 people survived cancer, now it’s 2 in 4 and with continued investment in research this could be 3 in 4 patients by 2034.
