3 Peaks Wheelchair Challenge · 27 July 2011
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
For the past 2 years we have put together a team of 14 to take part in an event called The Snowdon Push, organized by The Back-Up Trust which is a challenging event and not for the faint hearted or the unprepared. Our team of 14, including one wheelchair user (Simon), aim for the top of the mountain then race back down (8 terrifying miles) raising money, awareness and a zest for life along the way.
In 2009 we completed this amazing challenge in 4 hours 37 minutes, and were the second fastest team.
This year, as a team we have decided that we are going to attempt, The 3 Peaks Challenge. The National Three Peaks Challenge is a well-known phrase amongst the more adventurous. This challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in the UK within 24 hours. We will be attempting this over 3 days, from 6th July. This will be the first time on record that a wheelchair user has attempted this.
We will be raising money for 3 charities this year, The Back-Up Trust, Help For Heroes and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The Back-Up Trust is a small, dynamic and professional charity that runs a range of services for people with Spinal Cord Injury as well as their friends, family and volunteers, ranging from skiing and sailing to outward bound courses, to encourage independence, self-confidence and motivation following a life changing injury. They provide vital, life changing services that grow confidence and independence including mentoring, wheelchair skills and outdoor courses.
Help For Heroes was founded in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. They are strictly non political and non critical, simply wanting to help. They believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These Servicemen are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.
Marie Curie Cancer Care who’s nine hospices across the UK provide the largest number of hospice beds outside the NHS. The hospices offer specialist support in a relaxed, friendly and comfortable environment and no charge is ever made to patients or their families. Voluntary contributions, together with statutory government funding, are essential to continue providing these vital services. Marie Curie nurses also care for around 50 per cent of all cancer patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar surroundings of their own home. Their nurses are also there for families and carers - providing practical and emotional support at what can be an exhausting time
Due to problems with JustGiving we are only able to set up an account that sends the money to one charity, but we have an agreement with the charity that they will split the money 3 ways.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate for our causes!
Many thanks,
The 3 Peaks Wheelchair Challenge Team
