3 Peaks Yacht Race (and a 96 mile trot back to Glasgow!) · 25 June 2011

The Three Peaks Yacht Race begins in Barmouth, Wales on Saturday 24th June at 16:00 when, at the sound of a very loud horn, 32 crews in mono-hulls of varying sizes will cross the start line and make their way to Caernarfon. Two runners from each boat will run inland and ascend Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, via the Ranger's Track.
They will then descend via the Llanberis track and run back to the coast where a ready-and-waiting crew will collect them to continue the journey north. The sail to Whitehaven will take them through the Menai Straits (which has proved treacherous to the boats in previous year, causing them to run aground and ultimately pull out!).
The second landing will be at Whitehaven in the North of England. Runners will have to cycle 18 miles inland to Black Sail Hut before running over Blacksail Pass into Wasdale Head, whereupon they will ascend their second summit (Scafell Pike, the Highest in England), before making the same journey back to the boat at Whitehaven.
The last sailing leg is the longest of the race and will take up to two days to complete. Landing in Fort William, the runners, shaking off sea-sickness and rough sleep, will charge toward the top of Ben Nevis (highest mountain in Scotland), returning to the harbour to cross the finish line.
The entire race involves a total of 389 miles of difficult coastal sailing, 36 miles of cycling and 72 miles of running and is expected to take 4 days to complete!!
Most of the crews will dissipate after the event and head home but Team Moby J has other ideas!
Martin Pound and Ed Brent will take Moby J to the channel islands to race in J-Cup, giving them less than 10 days to get there.
Charles, one of the runners, will make his way 96 miles along the West Highland Way in order to catch a plane home from Glasgow. Making his total running mileage that week 168 miles!!
Please show your support for team Moby J and their efforts by making a donation (no donation too small!!) to Nurture Lakeland for their Fix the Fells initiative.
Thank you very much J
