Story
From 19th to 22nd August, I will be taking on the 4-4-2 Challenge - walking 4 marathons in 4 days on 2 old legs raising money for the Alzheimer's Society - an amazing charity that is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
My Mum is living with Alzheimer's Disease, it's at an early stage but we have had glimpses of the future, we think we know what's coming but the reality is that we just can't fully prepare for it. I'm not going to give the full story as we all know the consequences of this disease, our way is to keep laughing, keep loving and...send me out on another fundraising challenge!
For those that know me, I love a challenge but it's been a while since my last charity event. Why? My body is telling me to stop, my head is in denial! Two dodgy hamstrings, a dodgy quad, snapped Achilles, knee tendonitis, cortisone injections, operations, physio, osteopathy...what could possibly go wrong?
So, this will be a stripped down, essentials only challenge; me, my rucksack, lots of Compeed and anyone that wants to join me along the way. 104 miles in a circular route around Leicestershire broken down into the following stages:
Leg 1 (Wednesday): Cossington to Belton-in-Rutland
Leg 2 (Thursday): Belton-in-Rutland to Dunton Bassett
Leg 3 (Friday): Dunton Bassett to Shackerstone
Leg 4 (Saturday): Shackerstone to Cossington
The funds raised from this challenge are unlikely to even dent the surface in fighting this disease but raising some funds and awareness can only make a positive difference, no matter how small.
I am extremely grateful for your support, it is genuinely appreciated, thank you!
If anyone wants to join in for a leg then please just let me know.
