Streetwise Opera - "I Sang on a West End stage" · 21 March 2010 ·

Streetwise Opera is an opera company that enables people who’ve experienced homelessness to find inspiration and empowerment while they rebuild their lives and identities. We support participants to develop as creative people and, as we amplify their voices, change how society views homelessness.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On Sunday 21st March 2010, Eleanor, Miriam, Hanna and Alexis will be learning Bizet's Carmen and performing it in front of a paying audience. All in one day. Alongside professional singers. Under instruction from world-famous opera director, Keith Warner. We are doing this in order to raise money for Streetwise - a charity for the homeless which provides not only financial support to those sleeping rough on our streets but also uses music as a tool to build self-esteem, social networks, skills and creativity to help these people move forward in their lives. For an example of how this is done, watch this short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kYFzYoLybU

Those of you who know us quite well might think our selected method of fundraising for homeless people around the U.K. makes a lot of sense: theatrical, musical, and slightly bizarre.

Those of you who know us really well will know that Eleanor's inherent shyness, Miriam's occasional lack of coordination, Hanna's inability to learn lines on request, and Alexis' newly-discovered stage fright will make this day quite a challenge.

But it's a challenge we want to tackle because it's really cold outside, and there are people living out there with nowhere else to go, and no way to change their situation. So anything you can give to help us support Streetwise will be very gratefully received.
