Story

In 2019 Christianna Foundation visited all 102 primary schools in Ona-Ara, Oyo State Nigeria, conducting a needs assessment. We found 1,697 out of 19,367 pupils have library access, just 8.8%. Schools had as many as 20-50 pupils per textbook and some schools had no books at all. We believe these children deserve better and we want to do something about it. In 2020 we will be launching a mobile library that will service approximately 20,000 children. We will aim to provide books so every child is able to enjoy reading both at school and at home.

About the charity

Around 35 million children in Nigeria lack basic literacy skills, we're on a mission to change that. Illiteracy is a major cause of extreme poverty. We are dedicated to improving lives by investing in the education of Nigeria's greatest natural resource - its children.
