Story
The 6th of February 2016 marked the 10 year anniversary of the birth of when I gave birth to a poorly boy in Ysbyty Gwynedd.
Four minutes may not seem like a long time, but that is how much time passed before my son took his first breath. I had Group B strep which was only detected during the last couple of hours of labour and this affected my Son. With the help of Ysbyty Gwynedd's hard working team Clayton pulled through and I am able to enjoy watching him grow and change into a young man which is priceless.
I am aware things could have been very different, and many family's daily go through heartache of losing a loved one.
So....what better way to celebrate life that to do something with it? Late January this year I decided to commit to a challenge - to complete 50 marathons in my spare time in 2016. This may not sound like many to some who know Eddie Izzard can do consecutive marathons and somehow without injury BUT I am fitting it all in around working nights and my three young children, with no team of aid or support if I'm having an off day or week. The fire in my belly remains lit knowing we can all make a difference no matter how big or small.
Donations to the SCBU help fund a range of added extras that go above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide. In the last few years donations have helped fund:
- The refurbishment of a mother and baby room on the Unit
- New state of the art 'hot cots' - which allow SCBU staff to easily regulate premature babies body temperature
- Portable breast pumps
- Specialist neonatal training for SCBU nurses
- New medical equipment which enables SCBU babies to benefit from the latest - cutting edge technology.
Thank you very much for reading my story, if you can spare a couple of quid please do sponsor me and don't forget to share my story with friends, family and work colleagues too.
