-----------------

Women for Women was founded in 1993 to help women survivors of war and conflict rebuild their lives and communities. They have since supported over 500,000 women across 8 conflict-affected countries, for example, Afghanistan, Nigeria, DRC and Rwanda, through a combination of social, health and economic empowerment training.

At the core of their work, women enrol in a 12-month programme, where they, along with 24 other women:

👭 Build support networks

💰 Develop skills to earn and save money, as well as marketable job skills such as tailoring

🦸‍♀️ Learn about their rights, such as voting rights or divorce

🩺 Improve health and wellbeing for them and their families through practical knowledge on fundamental areas such as reproductive health, hygiene and nutrition

These groups provide crucial tight-knit support systems and the impact is huge, both on the individual women, and the families and communities they support and contribute to. The women run businesses together, save money and stand up for their rights. When we invest in women, they lift up those around them.

Randomised controlled trials (RCT) have shown after 12-months in the programme, women had gains in gross earnings, savings and access to credit. They had increased participation in household decision-making, felt more in control of their lives and had improved their family's health and wellbeing (e.g. through diversified diets and lower rates of anxiety).

During emergencies like Covid-19, women and girls are often impacted the most, making the work Women for Women does more important than ever right now.

To 'sponsor a sister' through the programme, it costs £289. We will walk or run a metre for everyone woman reached to date (500km) over the 8 weeks, representing each country where their work is conducted. We're doing this to enable Women for Women to continue the incredible work they do, in the hopes that another 500,000 women can be lifted up through the programme in the future.

🦸‍♀️ Our target:

We'd like to, together with you, sponsor 1️⃣7️⃣ women and provide training to empower them to improve the lives of their family and their communities.

💪 Join us!

Finally, we would love for you to join our #500for500 challenge. If you'd like to, as a team of any size or individual, please let us know and we'll add you to this team JustGiving page. We'll start the challenge on Sunday 7 February - Sunday 4 April.
