Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

Through 2016, I'm running 52 parkruns, in 52 weeks, in 52 places. And blogging about it to keep you up to date on progress - www.52parkruns.wordpress.com.

Parkruns are free, weekly, timed 5k runs, which take place in hundreds of different parks across the UK and further afield.

I have two big aims over the course of the year. These are:

  1. To raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer's Research UK; and
  2. To encourage as many people as possible to take part in a parkrun.

Alzheimer's Research UK

Alzheimer's Research UK do brilliant work to fund Alzheimer's research and translate findings into new treatments and preventions.

Alzheimer's is a progressive and ultimately fatal disease of the brain. Symptoms such as memory disorders, personality changes and impaired reasoning can affect all aspects of a person's life, as well as that of their family's.

There's currently no cure for dementia. There are treatments that help alleviate some of the symptoms, but only to a certain extent and for a limited time.

Research has made (and continues to make) a huge difference to cancer care. If we invest in it now, it can also make a huge difference to Alzheimer's and dementia care.
