5k a day every day in May! · 28 April 2020

At Northern Ireland Hospice, we care for more than 4,000 babies, children and adults with life-limiting illnesses, both in Hospice and in the community. We look after every patient's nursing, medical, social, spiritual and emotional needs with support for their family continuing into bereavement.

Story

Hello there,

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are group of friends who have come together (virtually) in an attempt to raise some much needed funds for the Northern Ireland Hospice. The original plan was to take this year and raise funds in memory of my Mum's 10 year anniversary which took place in March 2020. However, the plans for hosting a charity Abba evening and taking part in a 26 mile hike fundraiser were inevitably and rightly cancelled. Despite this, I still wanted to think of another way we could try to raise money as I soon realised that a charity like NI Hospice needs funds now more than ever. A wonderful charity close to the hearts of many.

People are unfortunately still suffering and dying from other diseases and they and their families will still require support during and after this pandemic. The NI Hospice's nurses, doctors, and support teams are still tirelessly providing care to their patients throughout this crisis and they need to be able to continue their specialist services and help those that need it.

So the aim is for us to each complete 5k everyday during the month of May. Team Mamma Mia, proudly named after the wonderful Abba (who my Mum loved a dance to), is made up of the lovely people listed at the bottom of the page.

I wanted this fundraiser to be inclusive to all abilities so each of us have set our own targets for how we complete the 5k - some of us have set the goal to run every day and some are going to walk/jog - we will update you on the progress with posts and photos below. :-)

Maintaining the consistency of completing this distance for 31 days in a row will be the main challenge! Nonetheless, we will do our very best to reach the grand total of 155km each by the end of May. In doing so, we hope that you can spare a couple of pounds and donate to our page - anything at all is truly appreciated and will be gratefully received by the Northern Ireland Hospice.

Thank you for your support and keep safe,
