Story

Team Macy has so far run marathons, cycled to Bournemouth, Brighton and the big100K!  We've facepainted, crafted, quizzed, and danced our way to raising over £57,000!  And now 5 lads in lycra are going to cycle all the way to Paris - 180 miles in 3 days to raise awareness and money for genetic research into children born with genetic heart conditions.

Paul Cruickshanks, Macy's daddy, and his friends, Mark Dalton, Richard Parker, Richard Fell and Gary Stewart are all adorning lycra for charity - something that no one deserves to see but all in the name of raising some money!  They are being supported throughout their 180 miles by their support crew, Simon Davies and Barry Norris who will be driving the round trip to make sure the lads keep those legs moving and get those miles down.  And all to raise much needed funds.

In 2012 Macy was born.  She was the third child to complete the Cruickshanks' family and was the most perfect little thing.  But Macy was born with an undetected heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which meant that although she was able to spend some time at home with her older sister and brother, unbeknown to the family, she was actually very poorly.  Eventually she was rushed to The Royal Brompton Hospital where the family were given the devastating news that Macy's heart was so poorly she would not be able to live.  Macy continued to fight and was offered open heart surgery to try to stabilise her enough to eventually be strong enough to receive a transplant.  Although surviving the surgery, Macy was too weak to continue and died in her mummy's and daddy's arms.

The support received whilst Macy was in hospital was phenomenal and Team Macy was created.  Since her death, her family and friends have been raising awareness of this devastating illness - the same heart condition that has killed many young athletes that have also been undetected at birth.  The money raised from this cycle ride will help fund the genetic research into cardiac conditions that kill more children than all childhood cancers put together, and hopefully one day prevent other families from the devastation of losing a child.

Please support this wonderful cause and give the lads a boost for their 180 mile journey.
