Story

Gary:

Back in 2011 my wife Becci was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the following three years she underwent two surgical procedures, two courses of radiotherapy and several rounds of chemotherapy.
Sadly on August 22 2013, aged just 39, Becci lost her fight to this horrible indiscriminate disease.

You know family and friends will always be there for you no matter what, and they were. What surprised me was support and care both Becci and I received though this period from individuals and departments, particularly the Oncology ward at the George Eliot hospital, was truly amazing.

The oncology ward at George Eliot is where Becci, and many other cancer patients, spent a lot of time receiving chemotherapy treatment. The atmosphere created by the amazing staff with such a positive attitude in such a difficult environment is a true credit to them all.

Although it is a hospital funded department the oncology department needs the extra support to make patients time there a bit more comfortable, from TV’s & fans to extra equipment like cold caps & Intravenous pumps.

I would now like to show my gratitude and support for the oncology ward by competing in the three personnel challenges, aided by Bob, in order to raise funds so others can continue to be supported as we were.

Whatever the ward chooses to use the money we raise for, it will have a plaque with Becci’s name placed on it. There are already a couple of items in the department proudly bearing her name.
