Story
Please read my story and spread awareness for Addison’s sufferers, it could save a life!
Many of you know that I'm a proud father of two beautiful girls. In February 2016 after a ridiculous number of visits to the doctor and being told there was nothing wrong with our 11-year-old daughter (who was fading before our eyes) and to tell her "She feels OK and she would be", somebody listened!!! Within 2 weeks Molly had, had many test and we were told that She had Addison Disease. 6 Years on we know a considerable amount about the condition and how best to manage it, however, we are still learning.
Addison’s affects people in many ways, but if not diagnosed or treated it is life-threatening. In Molly's case she suffers from muscle weakness, constant pain, severe headaches, constant exhaustion, lack of concentration and anemia. To top it all off, she has an amazing tan all year round, this is also part of her condition.
Molly, now 18 and studying at university try’s her hardest not to let the condition get the better of her, but every day is a constant struggle to battle Addison’s, even to do the very basic of tasks.
We are a lucky case as Molly was diagnosed with exceptionally low cortisol levels and her body was shutting down. Although things are still tough for our baby at the minute, we, as a family want to spin it upside down and do something positive.
To raise funds for the Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group (ADSHG) this 12-month project will see me attempt to run every street in “Bury” including the surrounding 5 towns (Prestwich, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Tottington and Whitefield) that make up the Metropolitan borough, that’s over 3,000 streets in total.
Making it more interesting, if you would like me to run a specific street in these areas you could sponsor me £1.00 to run it once £2.00 to run twice etc.
Be kind!
So, I've dropped that stone in the pond and for every person who reads this I have hopefully raised awareness of this condition and the money I raise will help a family like ours and educate people (including doctors) of how to help and support not only Addison’s sufferers but their families too.
