New bearings for the Duke's driving & tender wheels · 29 February 2020

The primary objective of the Trust is to ensure that future generations may understand and enjoy this unique example of the ultimate development of British steam locomotive technology. We will maintain the Duke in mainline working order and promote educational activities in support of our objective.

Story

71000 Duke of Gloucester is undergoing a major general overhaul at Tyseley Locomotive Works.  As the Duke has been stripped down we have become aware of some major components that need to be replaced.  The eight bearings for the driving wheels will cost almost £47,000, plus fitting.  We have also recently learned that all 12 of the bearings on the loco's tender will also have to be replaced.  We are therefore raising these funds to cover the costs of these very expensive components.  Anything that you can afford to contribute will be very much appreciated.
