Event: VELOTHON Wales 2018, on 8 July 2018
Following the devastating news of Carl Ikeme's leukaemia diagnosis, Wolverhampton Wanderers' chosen charity for all funds raised in support of the club's number 1 goalkeeper will be Cure Leukaemia.

Story

In July this year I will be taking part in Velothon Wales (87 miles), Wales Sportive (112 miles), Wales half marathon (13 miles) and Ride London (100 miles). In total, I’ll cover over 300 miles on bike and foot in a month. I will also be entering some local events as part of my training.

Whilst I haven’t personally known anyone who has had Leukaemia, I have seen the devastating effects of cancer on my family. I want to complete these events to support a charity that helps people with cancer to lead better and longer lives whilst continuing the fight against cancer by making gains in cancer research.

As a Wolverhampton Wanderers fan we were hit with the news that our goal keeper Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in July 2017. I’ve been inspired by all the hard work that the club and fans have put in to raising money to support Carl and Cure Leukaemia.

Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.

Cure Leukaemia fund research nurses at 15 hospitals across the UK. These roles form the Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) network giving patients, from a catchment area of 30m, access to potentially life-saving treatments through clinical trials, with plans to fund a paediatric network on the way.
