Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page for ‘Action4Archie’.
Lou, Michelle and Kieran will be taking on the London2Cambridge 100k challenge which entails walking 100km continuously for 24hrs. We will be taking on this difficult challenge for a very special little boy.
Archie Hill (Lou’s Son) was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy In 2008 at just 3 years old.
Duchenne is a very severe degenerative Muscle wasting Disease, which leads to paralysis and will significantly shorten his life. Duchenne only affects boys and usually causes them to stop walking between the ages of 10-12. Life expectancy is between their mid to late twenties.Archie is now 10.The condition is now beginning to impact Archie’s daily life. Simple tasks like climbing the stairs are becoming a challenge.
As it is a degenerative disease, his condition will continue to worsen. At present there is no cure but treatment and support can help improve both the quality and length of life...Archie is known to us all as a very special little boy, if you have been lucky enough to meet him, I'm sure you will agree!
'Action4Archie' was set up to raise much needed funds for the ‘Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund’. All money raised goes towards funding research to find a cure of Duchenne.
In 2012 Lou & Gary (Archie's parents) were made Ambassadors for the Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund at Muscular Dystrophy UK.
They have appeared on National T.V, Good Morning Britain,ITV News, BBC Radio, had meetings with David Cameron and NHS England, fighting for a drug Translarna to be made available in the UK. Translarna slows down the progression of Duchenne. They have also become friends with England and Arsenal footballer Jack Wilshere who has been very supportive towards Archie and he has also become an Ambassador for MDUK.
Kieran Hunt (a close friend of Jack's) and Michelle Bond are friends of Archie’s family. This will be Kieran’s first 100k challenge, Michelle’s second and Lou’s third. Kieran and Michelle have been exceptionally kind & supportive to all the family and have agreed to push themselves to the limits with this challenge....With the support of friends like these it enables Lou and her family to stay strong, positive and continue fundraising.
I know this won’t be the only fundraising request you receive but any donations would be very much
appreciated.
Thank You
Lou, Michelle, Kieran and Action4Archie.
