In memory of Duncan Skinner
Established in memory of AFCCT former chairman, Duncan Skinner. More than £85,000 has been raised in support of our work with young people, providing an annual programme of volunteering opportunities and training to secure a brighter future.

Story

Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust (AFCCT) ambassador Mark Wilson will be a leading a team including Liz Bowie [Chief Exec of AFCCT], Rob Wicks [AFC Commercial Director], Eric Harper and Iain Landsman to take on a monumental challenge in the Cairngorms in aid of raising funds in memory of Duncan Skinner and the new Brighter Futures Legacy Fund which was recently set up in his memory.

The challenge will involve a 35 mile walk over the course of 24 hours which take in Derry Cairngorm, Ben MacDui, Cairngorm, Braeriach, Angels Peak, Cairn Toul and Devils Point. This was a route walked by Duncan Skinner back in 2009 and we felt there was no better way
to honour him than to walk in his footsteps.

The Brighter Futures Fund, which was instigated by a £20,000 donation from Duncan earlier this year, supports the Trust’s work with young people and includes a year-long Youth Ambassador programme that gives 14–18-year-olds the chance to gain essential life experiences, skills and qualifications which might otherwise not be available to them, improving their chances of securing employment and reaching their full potential. Around 50 young people have benefited through the programme, but the Trust had no funding stream to continue and expand it until now. The Brighter Futures fund will not only enable the programme to restart, but its content will be augmented as a fitting tribute to Duncan Skinner.

A magnificent £35,000 has already been pledged towards our walk for the Duncan Skinner Brighter Futures fund. We have challenged ourselves to raise another £40,000.

Please help us reach AFCCT’s target of £100,000 by making a donation. Your support will ensure that the great work that Duncan started will continue in his name to help change young peoples’ lives in the Northeast for the better for many, many years to come.

Thank you very much
