Story

Hi folks!

In January, I pledged to raise £100 for the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund, a cancer charity of which I'm a patron, by going 'dry' for the month of April. Those of you who know me well as a card-carrying jakie will appreciate just how humungous an undertaking that would be!

Long story short, my dad had just come through a big operation the week before lockdown and I was staying with him for a couple of weeks until he got back on his feet. But then Covid was diagnosed in the workplaces of various family members and it was no longer safe for them to visit my dad, or for me to go 'home'. So, it was decided that it would be safer for my dad (86 and in the Bullseye target range!) to see nobody but me, so we've been in dual isolation since 15th March.

Instead of going dry for just April, I decided to start early and go dry while I was staying with him. My last drink was Saturday 14th March, and I plan to continue until Saturday 23rd May. 10 weeks. My dad is a much more trustworthy man than me and can vouch for my sobriety!

So, as I type this at the end of week #7 in the Big Brother House (and we haven't killed each other yet!), I was just going to ask close family to make a donation, because I'm aware that so many people's income has been adversely affected over the last two months. However, so many people have asked me if I had a Just Giving page so they could donate, I thought I'd set one up. Anything you give would be enormously appreciated. Even a quid a week , making £10 would be fantastic!

It's important you know that I'm not simply asking you for your money. I'm also donating what I would have spent on drink for the month of April. So, to get the page going, I've stuck in £100... but I'll top that up when I calculate how much I WOULD probably have spent! Bankruptcy beckons!

Eilidh died when she was fifteen, and the family spent a wonderful time with her in the Stirlingshire countryside before she passed, and they decided to honour her memory by building a respite house where children with cancer could spend some quality time with their families and create lasting memories of precious time together. After ten years of fundraising, the home is now built and the first family were going to be welcomed into the house this Summer... until Covid kicked in. But we still need to raise £50k each year to keep the house open and maintained.

Thank you in anticipation, and I'm looking forward to falling off the wagon in style on 23rd May.
