DUCK - Kilimanjaro Expedition · 31 August 2011 ·
Hi!
I'm a third year UK student studying Applied Psychology at the University of Durham and I am fundraising with Durham University Charities Kommittee (DUCK) for my expedition in Tanzania in Africa during the summer of 2011. As a group we are trying to raise a hefty sum for 'Save the Children', but my individual goal is £3100.00! Half of this money will benefit Save the Children's Emergency Fund (£1000) and also Future Sense Foundation (£500). The emergency fund ensures that money is in place so Save the Children can act as quickly as possible when disaster strikes and Future Sense Foundation are the incredible charity we will be volunteering for in Tanzania and who will also be organizing the massive climb! Remember that all money raised online will go directly to the Emergency Fund and Future Sense Foundation! The remaining half of the money will be used to cover the costs of the trip i.e. travel. This will be largely raised offline.
Our journey will begin with a six day trek where we attempt to climb the world’s largest freestanding mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, at a whopping 5,895 feet. Our next feat will come with working with Future Sense Foundation on community projects. These projects will largely involve manual labour -- more details to come!
'Save the Children' provides protection, healthcare, food and education to children in more than 120 countries across the globe. Principally, help is provided to those children most in need of it. Though it sounds like a cliche, any donation we provide, be it through donating our time to build infrastructure, be it through teaching, be it through sponsoring large scale charities like DUCK or even individuals on a charity expedition, will prove invaluable to at least one child!
Donations of any size are encouraged and would be massively appreciated! You can donate online at www.justgiving.com/Abda-Mahmood (this page!). Just look towards the top left of this information screen.
Thankyou for your interest in our project. Keep your eyes peeled and follow my progress on facebook where you will learn of the successes and failures of our fundraising activities!
