Story
Hello all,
having completed the team (quad and duo) Rottnest swim challenges my competitive side has got the better of me and I decided that I couldn't stop until I had done the whole swim on my own.
For those of you that don't know the swim, it is 20km+ (approx. 13 miles) straight swim out to sea from Cottesloe beach to Rottnest island over literally the sharkiest waters in the world. The swim starts before dawn and for the last couple of years has experienced large swells up to 4 m combined with the added fun of 20knot + winds in the late morning. So for the last few months I have been flogging myself in the swimming pool night and day, an average week consisting of three 7-10 km pool swims with 3km sea swims in between. In the weeks leading up to the race I intend to be swimming over 35km a week in preparation. I am aiming for a time of sub 6 hours, failing that not drowning would be equally as nice.
The whole point of all this splashing about? To raise money for a very worthwhile cause, Southern Cross Care Wa who provide aged and dementia care to over 3000 people in Western Australia. I am raising money for one of their care homes in particular, Vincent House, who do a fantastic job in looking after someone very dear to us.
So I would really appreciate all of your support for this great cause and rest assured that I will be working very hard indeed for all of your much appreciated donations.
Thanks!
Adam
