Chase The Sun (South) 2023 · 24 June 2023

Pain UK is working to influence and raise awareness of the way that pain is dealt with in the NHS, the workplace and society. As an umbrella organisation we are building a stronger voice representing those living with pain.

Story

On June 22nd 2024 i will be taking part in an event called "Chase The Sun". This event involves a few thousand (slightly mad) cyclist setting off to complete a ride across the country in a single day.

The south route that I've decided to undertake is around 205 miles long and will take me from the Minster Leas Beach on the Isle of Sheppey to The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare.

The main goal of Chase The Sun is to set off at sunrise (4:33am) and arrive before the sun sets (9:20pm) a total of 16 hours 47 minutes. The secondary goal is simply to finish.

I thought why not do some good while i'm at it; as some of you will know my fiancée suffers from Trigeminal Neuralgia. This condition causes sudden, severe facial pain, this could feel anywhere from "my teeth are vibrating" to "continuous burning/electric shock".

Diagnosis of pain disorders like Trigeminal Neuralgia can be a difficult time for those suffering. Pain UK's "Pain Charter" is something that i feel is a good starting point to helping reduce that difficulty many chronic pain sufferers have in being understood when first seeking medical help and throughout treatment.

For this reason i am raising money for Pain UK, a charity that supports all those living with long term pain.
