Story
I was inspired to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK after seeing and living alongside my mother in law Bridget (Niamh and Mia's grandmother) who had dementia for six years. She idolised her grandaughters and relocated to Cambridgeshire to be close to them when they were both young. After a few years, it became apparent that something wasn't quite right with her behaviour. She would forget routine things such as collecting the girls from school and conversations. For a few years following Bridget's diagnosis, we cared for her the best we could, watching her ability to live a normal life slowly diminish. As a family we all had to deal with the heartbreak of seeing Bridget not coping and then having to help her with personal care when she had always been such an immaculate capable lady. We then had to come to terms with the fact that she needed 24 hour care in a residential home.
I self published my first poetry book 'Faceless' last year inspired by my daughter Niamh who presented me with a poem she had written which I was blown away by. We started to have poetry battles which was a mindful past time for us during lockdown. Every year I challenge myself to come up with a new fundraising idea and this year it seemed like the perfect solution to self publish a poetry collaboration with both our poems in.
Our new book 'Like Father Like Daughter' covers a range of topics and we are really looking forward to seeing how it is received. We would love your help to beat last year's total raised £2000. Our book is due out at the end of November and could make a great Christmas gift!
The cost of our book is £10 including p&p (£8 without). If you would like to purchase a copy, please make a payment through PayPal to paypal.me/adamwaughpoetry .
