Story
Hello All
As some of you may know I have had a particularly difficult few months battling my PTSD and associate depression and anxiety. During this time something that has helped me is running and challenging myself to running faster and further.
I decided that I needed a focus to help me through these difficult times and inspire others to use exercise to improve their physical and mental health.
I have therefore set myself the mammoth challenge to run 300 miles from St Davids, Wales to Skegness over a two week period to raise money in aid of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
The reason I chose this charity is due to an accident involving my friend Jamie and how the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance played a massive part in saving his life.
I met Jamie in 1999 whilst serving in the British Army. We have remained close friends ever since.
It was on the evening of 30th September 2016 that Jamie fell down the stairs whilst at a friend’s house in Skegness. This lead to Jamie being knocked unconscious. The paramedics were called and on arrival they realised the situation was far worse than first thought and it was decided that to save Jamie’s life he would have to be air lifted by Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham to undergo treatment.
On arrival at the Queen’s Medical Centre Jamie was given a 50/50 chance on survival. He was rushed into emergency surgery and had to have a blood clot the size of a fist removed. Jamie’s recovery is still ongoing.
If it wasn’t for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance’s quick action that day it could have been a different story for Jamie.
