We are the voice of UN Women in the UK. Through advocacy, campaigning and fundraising we support UN Women in its mission for gender equality and the empowerment of women in the UK and around the world.

Story

Over the last ten years I have been blessed with good health and fortunate circumstances that have afforded me the opportunity to travel the world over.  I've been lucky enough to witness, first-hand, the determination in the faces of 90 year old women prostrating themselves as they make sacred pilgrimages through Tibet.  I have been inspired by the young single mothers who, despite their circumstances, manage to raise happy, joyous children in the slums of Manila.  And I have been awestruck by the deft skills of Korean mermaids: women who make their living free diving twenty meters into the sea to catch octopus.

These are just some examples of the things I have observed that have allowed me to grow and learn as a person. Throughout my travels I have come to realise how wonderful the world is;  the people who inhabit it it are extraordinarily persevering and the many different cultures are so incredibly versatile.  In my experience, however, there is one thing that these cultures have in common; the subjugation of women.

UN WOMEN is a committee that supports the mission for gender equality and the empowerment of women.  **I aim to cycle the perimeter of Taiwan, which is 1566 kms and climb Mt Kinabalu, which is one of the highest mountains in South East Asia at 13,435 ft, to raise money for UN WOMEN.   As a woman who has more freedom than most, I want to do this on behalf of women all around the world.

Anything you can give to help me on my mission to raise money, which I genuinely believe will help to change the lives of girls and women around the world, will be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Adrianne

**"It wasn't what we did, it was how we did it" - We were chased by dogs, hit by a scooter, hissed at by monkeys, I lost feeling in my hands, conquered mountains that we didn't plan for, cycled through thunderstorms and a mild earthquake and still smashed our overall target by THREE DAYS!! I'm so proud of both of us. It's truly amazing what you can do when you focus your mind and have determination. It's been, physically, the most challenging thing I have ever done. I cried during our last kilometre, just thinking 'WE DID IT !!' 1000 miles  Yay.  I still have a mountain to climb so please continue to be generous.**
