Story

At the beginning of 2020 I set up a Just-giving page with
the ambition to fundraise as much money as possible, by competing in Ironman
Vichy 2020. My goal was to cross the finish line with my Mum and all my family
supporting me. But who would have known what the next 2 years was going to
throw at us, especially my remarkable Mum.

Back in 2020 Mum was fighting hard. After her initial cancer
was successfully removed, Mum underwent continuous chemotherapy after the
cancer spread to her lungs. We were all informed that neither chemotherapy nor
an operation could remove it and that managing it and keeping it small was the
only way forward.

Mum continued to have chemo throughout the pandemic until
the chemo started to take its toll and it was time for a break. Luckily, in
August 2020 we were all able to get away and spend a holiday together in Mum
and Dad’s second home in France. This by far is Mums favourite place to go and
we all had a blast (even dad turned 70).

However, following our arrival back in the UK Mum started to
experience issues with her balance which warranted further tests. Covid made it
tricky for things to get organised but on the 7th of October Mum was diagnosed
with a brain tumour. Due to the location of the tumour and its rapid growth,
there is no treatment for this! Until you’ve experienced hearing those words,
you can’t quite comprehend the sudden fear and sadness you experience.

Mum deteriorated rapidly and with support from Macmillan and
district nurses we continued to care for Mum at home. Palliative care had its
highs and lows, Mum made us laugh, smile and cry and you didn’t quite know what
the day would bring for her. But I’m so grateful that, thanks to Macmillan we were
able to keep Mum at home with the company and care that she needed before she
passed away on the 28th of November 2020.

Macmillan have supported Mum throughout the last years. She
always voiced how grateful she was for them and how much they helped her cope
with the tough times. They have also been an amazing support to us as a family.
The support and care that they offer is second to none and I don’t know what we
would have all done without them.

Still after 2 covid cancellations I’m going to keep my
promise to raise money for Macmillan cancer support, by competing in the
ironman Vichy in 2022!! I will cross the finish line in honour of my Mum and
most of all raise funds to help make a difference to other families who are
going through the same!

Please, please, please donate what you can and pass the
message on!! Together let's make a difference.
