On September 2nd 2024 Aksia Europe will be stepping up again for Doorstep Library! This year we will be tackling a trail from Henley to Maidenhead, a 27k combination of the Thames Path and the Chilterns, with some testing elevation gain and loss along the way. Please support the team's efforts and give generously to our charity partner - Doorstep Library.

Doorstep Library brings books and the magic of reading directly to the homes of children in some of London's most disadvantaged areas. Volunteers (including several members of the Aksia Europe team) read with the children, lend them books, befriend the families and offer support. Poor reading skills are inextricably linked to economic disadvantage and reduced life possibilities. Their work improves not just reading skills, but confidence, self-esteem, articulacy, social integration, academic performance and even long-term employment prospects.

Doorstep run 19 shared-reading projects on-the-ground and online in the four London boroughs of Westminster, Lambeth, Camden and Hammersmith and Fulham. It costs them £15,000-£20,000 per year to run a project, where they can support up to 50 children living on a housing estate. We have raised more than £65,000 over the last two years, and would love to get to £100,000 by the end of our third year supporting Doorstep. Your support in achieving this goal will be much appreciated!
