Story

My amazing Dad is running in the London Marathon this year. It has been over 20 years since the first time we all went to London to cheer him on for the first time - he may be a bit slower and have a few more grey hairs now, but I'm still as proud of him today as I was back then.

26th April this year will be the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The effects of the disaster are still being felt in the region, and the need for fundraising is as great as ever.  As you may know, I have been involved with the Chernobyl Children's Project (UK) for some time. Dad has kindly offered to run in aid of this wonderful charity.

CCP (UK) supports children and young people who have been affected by the Chernobyl disaster in a number of ways. It provides recuprative holidays in the UK, and a holiday camp in a clean part of Belarus for those that are unable to travel. Some of the photos on this page are from that camp.

The charity also provides aid for children with cancer in hospitals and hospices in Belarus, and also training and assistance to improve the lives of those living in institutions. They also try to promote the integration of disabled children into mainstream schools.

Please take a look at the charity's website at www.chernobyl-children.org.uk where you will find more information about the disaster and the work that they do.

Dad and I would be very grateful if you could consider sponsoring him to run the Marathon this year for this very worthy cause. Having seen all the training that he has done in all kinds of weather, I can promise you that he really does deserve a few quid for his efforts!

Thank you very much for your support.

Joanna and Alan Cavill.
