Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

One of my "Bucket List" of things to do was to ride the Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica in Los Angeles in my 66th year on a Harley-Davidson Low Rider.

Having been a "Biker" in my youth it was a real ambition of mine.

Sadly, for many reasons, principally Coronavirus, this is not going to happen. So having to re-think this I then thought perhaps I could ride the A66 in England which runs from Workington in my home county of Cumbria across to Middlesbrough in the North East. I have a friend who has a Trike ( a 3 wheel motor bike) who kindly offered to take me. - not exactly a challenge though!

So then I thought how about walking the A66, a mere 120 miles?

Seems a decent challenge?

And then I looked into it a little more closely and whilst it seems a good challenge it is really quite dangerous walking along a major A road, so onto plan C. Walk along the approximate route of the A66.

This has to be a fundraising challenge as a 120 mile walk is not exactly a "Fun" thing to do so I had to decide what to raise funds for.

For me this is  a "No Brainer".

The Keswick Lions Club's major annual fundraiser " The Keswick Beer Festival" which I am very proud to have started 24 years ago had to be cancelled earlier this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, with the loss of around £30,000 to our club.

This money would have been used to support a multitude of local, national and international causes. Over the years our club has been a major contributor to The Lions Club International Foundation which is our worldwide charitable organisation which  has recently handed out over $5million dollars in grants just to Covid19 related causes alone.

Half of the funds I raise will go to the Keswick Lions Club and half to our International Foundation

As Lions , every penny we raise goes to our intended causes, as we, pay for our own overheads through our subscriptions. So every penny you donate counts

I will be starting on Friday 18th September and my walk will take 10 days. Taking in The Wheatsheaf Lorton (of Course) - Keswick-Penrith-Appleby-Barras-The Tan Hill Inn (the highest pub in England)- Barnard Castle-Darlington- Hartburn-finishing in Grangetown on Sunday 27th September.

120 Miles and around 260,000 steps!

Please would you support me in my fundraising effort.

Thanks very much.

Alan
