SPONSORED HAIRCUT

OCTOBER 21ST @ 'Reynolds' PELICAN WAY, LETCHWORTH, HERTS SG64NR  - - - -2:30pm

I intend to undergo a ‘Sposored Haircut
in aid of the Forces charity  “COMBAT STRESS” .

"COMBAT STRESS"
deals with returning combatant’s  and other ex-members of all the armed forces from the various campaign’s  carried out both pre & post Falkland’s.

This charity came to mind due my thoughts 'linking' with each other whilst  busy ordering a  calendar from another charity site called 'Garrison Girls' (The wives and daughter's of serving personnel who were/are posted in the combat areas at the present time).

I  began thinking about the soldiers who had been ‘executed’ during WW1 for what the military classed back then as cowardice, when in fact the majority of cases were what have now been proven and are now know commonly as "Shell-Shock", and the medical term is 'Post Traumatic Stress Dissorder' (PTSD).

I have been growning my hair for the past few months and it is now approximately 12 to 14 inches long, give or take n inch or two!
The 'Haicut' will be down to a NUMBER 2 blade, or if on the day it is made  "Combat Stress's"  worthwhile (Donation wise) I am willing to go 'clean shaven'/bald. For the 'right price' I would be willing to let a person have a CUT or Snip with  a pair of scissors!!

The event is being planned for sometime in October (So pleny of time to get the cash rolling in!) when he is hoping to have some of the Territorial Reservist Army  personnel in attendance (Medical Core). Combat Stress are also attemting to arrange as much publicity as possible once the definate October date is set, so watch this space for a date, as well as the local media!

Why Combat Stress exists

Combat Stress is the UK's leading military charity specialising in the care of Veterans' mental health.

We treat conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety disorders.  Our services are free of charge to the Veteran.

Since 2005 the number of ex-Service men and women seeking our help has risen by 72%.  And we have a current caseload of more than 4,300 individuals. This already includes 102 Veterans who have served in Afghanistan and 400 who served in Iraq.

In March 2010 our Patron HRH The Prince of Wales launched our major fundraising campaign  The Enemy Within Appeal.

The £30 million, three-year appeal is designed to help us treat the escalating number of psychologically injured Veterans who are turning to us for help, by:

  • Establishing 14 Community Outreach Teams nationwide

  • Enhancing clinical treatment at our three short-stay treatment centres

Last year Help For Heroes gave Combat Stress, the charity that helps veterans with mental wounds, a grant of £3.5 million. The money, the biggest grant in the history of Combat Stress, has been used to pay for the much needed expansion, modernisation and reorganisation of their specialist treatment centre, Tyrwhitt House in Surrey, in order to accommodate more Veterans and to provide uprated clinical and welfare working space. This is due to open in summer this year.

H4H Co-founder Bryn Parry said "This is a difficult subject for many to discuss and particularly hard to fundraise for. H4H were able to do it now and ensure that the centre can get on with their plans immediately and start caring for more of our mentally wounded now rather than wait.

With the increase of tours and the level of mental stress experienced it is vital that we have the facilities to give our boys and girls the best treatment, for their mental wounds as well as their physical."

Toby Elliott for Combat Stress adds:  "I wholeheartedly thank Help for Heroes for this absolutely magnificent donation.  It will enable us to rapidly upgrade Tyrwhitt House to deliver 21st century clinical services to those suffering from the wounds inflicted by 21st century warfare, who deserve the very best."
