In memory of Alan Knott
We raise funds for bladder cancer to improve research, support and outcomes

Story

Our much loved husband, dad and brother, Alan Knott, died on 12th March 2018 almost  five years after being diagnosed with bladder cancer.  He dealt with his illness with courage and determination from the start and died peacefully at home with his loving family around him. We are grateful that for a large part of the last five years of his life, Alan continued to work in the job he loved, spend time with the family he loved and to enjoy some wonderful holidays.

When Alan was first diagnosed, we knew little about bladder cancer. We now know that it is the 7th most common cancer in the UK and the 4th most common cancer in men.10,600 people are diagnosed each year. Diagnosis is often late and recurrence rates are high. It is also one of the most expensive cancers to treat but gets little research funding.

Action for Bladder Cancer aims to raise awareness amongst the public and GPs, of the symptoms to look out for and the need to take action earlier. We will never know if  it would have made a difference had Alan gone to the doctor earlier when he noticed blood in his urine but we do know that earlier diagnosis leads to better outcomes for patients.
