Story
In July 2023, I will be undertaking another long fundraising swim. This time I will be swimming across the longest lake in England - Windermere. I am again asking for the kindness of my network to fundraise for another extremely important cause.
The distance of this swim is 11 miles and I will be swimming it alone this time. This is another cold water swim which will likely take me between 5 and 6 hours to complete, depending on conditions. As with any extreme open-water swim, there is a high likelihood of hypothermia, as well as the potential for dehydration and exhaustion to occur. This is, therefore, a great challenge with real risks involved.
Now the really important bit - This year I have partnered with the extremely important charity; CALM, which does such important work supporting individuals struggling with their mental health, and specifically those that might also sadly be experiencing suicidal thoughts. Unfortunately, any one of us can feel suicidal and many people are afraid to talk about it. CALM work to remove the stigma and get people talking about how they are feeling. This is an important cause to me personally, so I will be giving it my all to get across this lake as fast as possible.
'Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this by offering life-saving services, provoking conversation, and bringing people together to reject living miserably. From advice on our site to free, confidential chats with our helpline staff, online or on the phone, we’re here for whoever needs us, every day. No matter what. £8 is enough to fund one potentially life-saving call.'
