Story
Mid life crisis? Not a chance. Most people of my age are into Lycra and state of art bikes. Not me, I have decided to don a pair of jodhpurs after 18 years and prepare a journey that should take me to a British Eventing (BE80) in the Autumn 2017 all in the aid of charity.
The challenge is to compete at a British Eventing 80 event in the autumn of 2017. To get there will require many other challenges along the way – such as getting fit, loosing weight, conquering nerves, training hard, and learning the skills necessary to be able to compete safely. What’s involved in a BE 80 competition; Dressage – a BE90 dressage test of approximately four and a half minutes; Show Jumping – a course of between seven and ten obstacles including one double combination and at least three spreads; Cross Country – a course of between eighteen and twenty five cross country jumps at a speed of 435 meters per minute with jumps at max height of 0.80m, top spread 0.90m, max base spread 1.25m.
Key attributes to attempt this challenge are potential riders who are not currently fit enough to get round a cross country course, not currently brave enough to get round a cross country course, old enough to know better, and know that this will hurt and dedicated – to raising money, to training, and conquering the fear
The Wobbleberry Challenge is to raise money for the Willberry Wonder Pony set up by Hannah Francis. Please read all about the charity as per the link above. If everyone is able to raise as much as they planned to raise, the challenge could make as much as £250,000 for the charity.
