Dubai Marathon · 22 January 2010
Hi all,
This year I am running the Dubai marathon in support of the mind mental health charity, as some of you may know my older brother Andrew has strived through the challenges of living with a mental health problem and suffers from Psychophrenia. Despite his illness he continues to do what he can to contribute back to the community as a volunteer worker for local charities. It is also worth noting that Andrew's wife Christine (who also suffers from mental health problems) sadly suffered from a stroke three years ago at a very young age and as a result not only does Andrew look after Christine he also has to cope with the day to day challenges that his own illness brings but still does this with immense courage and smile on his face.
A special mention at this point to my mother who is also a volunteer for the mind, as well as doing an amazing job as a full time carer for Andrew and Christine as well as looking after the rest of the family it really is a 24 hour a day 7 days a week job and she has been doing it without reserve or hesitation for the last 22 years and still finds time to volunteer.
Remembering that there are a few very special individuals out there who spend every second of their time doing things for other people without a thought for themselves and who spend everyday doing things a little bit out of the ordinary, I am going to run for them and would ask you to give what you can to help the mind continue its fantastic work which is very close to our family's hearts.
