Lewa Marathon · 29 June 2019

For over 30 years, Tusk has helped pioneer a range of successful conservation initiatives across more than 20 African countries, safeguarding millions of hectares of ecosystems, empowering local communities and increasing protection for some of the continent's most treasured threatened species.

Story

On the 29th June, the St Johns have teamed up to run the Lewa Safaricom Marathon in Kenya, rated as one of
the top ten most challenging marathons in the world.

Some of us will only be doing the half marathon and some for
the first time (Sabina and Chloe), but we are running to support the incredible work of Tusk
Trust that for the past 28 years has played a pivotal role in not just funding
wildlife conservation ,but also community development and environmental
education programs in 56 projects across 19 countries in Africa .

Over the past 20 years, Africa has seen a 96% drop in its
rhino population and equally devastating statistics in elephant poaching. As a
result of Tusk’s efforts, the black rhino population of Kenya has doubled over
the past 5 years but are still critically endangered.

The charity employs 3552 staff across Africa, supports 1478
schools and directly benefits 7.5 million people. It is meaningful statistics
as these making a real difference to ecotourism that drives us to support this
amazing charity whose patron is Prince William.

Much has been done to stem the Illegal Wildlife Trade but a
lot more needs desperately to be done to tackle this threat and promote
conservation based economic development across the continent. The survival of
Africa’s iconic species rests on long-term solutions that involve local people,
securing a safe habitat and reduce demand in the ivory trade.

We are committed to making a real difference for future
generations in wildlife conservation.

Your support would be immensely appreciated

Thank you
