Story

About The Twelve 12 Challenge

Having lost loved ones to cancer in the last couple of years I decided to organise a 1920s Charity Ball and 1950s Dance, with the help of two of my best friends. The events raised over £6,500 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity!

I had such a great time organising these events, knowing that the money was going to such a fantastic cause, that I have decided to embark on a new challenge - The Twelve12 Challenge.

In 2017, I will be participating in and organising at least 12 charity events and physical challenges in 12 months, whilst aiming to fundraise £12,000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

I chose this particular charity as funds received go towards both research for a cure for Cancer and patient care - a matter very close to my heart. My god father Lawrence Werth battled skin cancer for more than two years. He was an inspiration who consistently amazed friends and family with his stoic attitude and approach to dealing with his condition. Lawrence Werth passed away on August 19 at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London at age 57.

So this challenge is for him, my amazing Grandad and everybody else battling with cancer.

Below I have outlined the activities I will be organising and participating it:

In January, to launch the challenge, I organised a Magyar élelmiszer Fesztivál (Hungarain food festival) for close friends. The following day I took on the London in a Winter Walk – a 20km chilly walk around London in the pouring rain!

My February challenge was the Pembrey Off-Road Duathlon, unfortunately I had to pull out of this event due to an infected wisdom tooth. To make up for missing the event I have signed up for the (harder and longer) Mud & Mayhem off Road Duathlon on the 12th March in Thetford Forest.

My March Challenge: The Marsden March – a 14 mile walk between The Royal Marsden’s hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton.

My April Challenge: National 3 Peaks Challenge – a 24 hour strenuous challenge where I will hike/climb the 3 highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales.

My May Challenge: London 2 Brighton Challenge – a 100 km endurance trek from the capital to the coast.

My June Challenges: Ardingly Sprint Triathlon – Swim 400m, Bike 23km, Run 5km. Later in the month I will be taking part in the Richmond Park 10 km – a 10 km endurance run around the beautiful Richmond Park. Organised and hosted an Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatters Tea Party for the parents and staff at Elmhurst school.

My July Challenge: Balaton Atuszas – 5.2 km endurance swim across Lake Balaton, Europe’s largest lake.

My August Challenge: I organised a 10 day tour of Hungary for 12 close friends.

My September Challenge: Thames Bridges Trek – a 23 km trek zig zagging over 16 bridges in the capital.

My October Challenge: Amsterdam City Walk and Amsterdam Half Marathon – a 13.1 mile run around Amsterdam.

My November Challenge: Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 10km run.

My December Challenge: Inflatable 5km Santa run with 10 huge inflatable obstacles on course. I will also be running Wreath Making Workshops for the children at Elmhurst School.

Throughout the year I will also be doing several car boot sales and organising several other events to raise money.
