Story

Hi everyone,

I've chosen to raise money for Sands in memory of my friends little boy Alfie born 22-09-2011 and fell asleep 23-09-2011. He is always in my heart and I've wanted to do something for him for so long and nothing ever seemed quite right until now.

As well as this just giving page, I have had fabrics designed and I will be selling these between the 22nd May & 10th June in aid of Sands along side a raffle.

£1500 will buy a cuddle cot for a hospital in need, this will allow so many families the time they need to say goodbye to their precious babies.

My friends Emma & Rob have very kindly allowed me to share their story along with a photo of Alfie.

'After having our first son jay early at 35 weeks due to preeclampsia we were told the chances of it happening again were unlikely and if it did it would be less severe. Unfortunately this was not the case with Alfie, we started showing signs of preeclampsia at around 29 weeks and ended up staying in hospital on and off to monitor my blood pressure, at just under 32 weeks it became apparent that they were going to have to deliver early and so gave me steroid injections to bring on Alfie's lungs. I remember them telling us the night before the c section that there was no choice as my health and Alfie's was in danger. The next day Alfie was delivered by emergency c section when he arrived into the world I remember hearing his cry and was so relieved, he was born at 31 weeks and 5 days weighing 3lb 2oz on the 22nd of September 2011 10:57am he was then taken to nicu where he was put onto machines to help his lungs breath as they were under developed. My partner Rob and son Jay were able to go and see him in nicu, I was to ill to go that day and the nurse came in with a photo and told me that they would take me to see him in the morning as long as I was ok. The next morning came and alarms were going off in the unit, a midwife came in and said Alfie was very ill and had called Rob to get to the hospital. We were told that they were keeping him alive and that we could go and say our goodbyes to our darling son who I had still not met. We went into the room as they were keeping him alive we said our goodbyes on the 23rd of September 2011 tears down our faces the staff at the hospital were brilliant the whole time as i was in for a further 5 days we had a memory box made and given the chance to hold him and for family members to come and see him they also took pictures for us for a later date for us to look at if we wanted to we left the hospital 5 days later empty handed and in a state of disbelief as to why this had happened.  Unfortunately Alfie's lungs were underdeveloped due to preeclampsia causing the placenta to not grow properly and his early arrival. 2 years later we had our 3rd son Joshua which was a pre elected c section at 37 weeks after being very closely monitored by consults he has been told all about his big brother who looks after us all from heaven xxx'
