Story

I owe the SCAA my life - literally - and want to, in a small way, pay something back. 3 years ago I went out with my brother-in-law and a friend on a cycle. Beautiful views but absolutely nothing crazy. I was in full cycling safety gear and on a gravel path. I remember we stopped for a drink of water then my next memory is 2 months later.

Turns out I came off my bike and landed on my head. Beautiful views are, unfortunately, a bit remote. It took the ambulance crew an hour to get to me then an SCAA helicopter ride to take me to hospital. If it hadn't been for them, I wouldn't be here.

I'm just one of the many, many lucky people who owe their lives to the SCAA and without donations they wouldn't exist. They're entirely funded by charity which is why I want to help raise as much as I can so they can continue their phenomenal work. I set myself a pretty high target (£2500) but over the past 3 years I've been told a lot  that I can't do something and have loved the challenge of proving people wrong.

It's the challenge of The Kiltwalk that has made me want to do it to raise funds. Over the past 3 years - since my accident - I've faced quite a few challenges. I was in a coma and fought my way out of it. In a wheelchair and fought my way out of it. In hospital, I had to pass a test to be allowed to walk unaided. Once I was out of hospital there was no stopping me.

I remember the look of concern on my wife's face when I told her, 2 ½ years ago, I was going to walk 1000 steps in a day. It was the same look of concern when I told her, a few months later, I was going to walk to the shops on my own. When I told her I was going to do The Kiltwalk...same look. The walking's the easy bit though. It's the fundraising that's the hard bit.

Which is where you come in. Even if all you can give me and the SCAA is good wishes...it's more than enough but if you've got a few pounds spare please, please, give it. The reason I set the target I have is that the average cost for 1 air ambulance trip is £2500 and, as that 1 helicopter ride saved my life, I'm sure with your generosity, we can do it!
