On 30th November last year my 7 year old nephew Blake died of a rare disease called HLH. This was after battling with Leukaemia for the best part of two years; a battle that all the signs suggested Blake was winning.
Given the tragic events and the heartbreak that has followed, running a marathon seems a bit inconsequential. However, Blake’s Dad told me recently that the Macmillan Cancer Nurses were saviours and the support they provided Blake and his family was irreplaceable.
With this in mind I’m running the Windermere Marathon this May, in Blake’s memory and also with the aim to raise money for Macmillan.
