Alice's London Marathon 2024

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Due to a diagnosis of a stress fracture in my Tibia I have deferred my marathon place to April 2024.On Sunday 21st April 2024 I am running the London Marathon in memory of my Mum, Felicity Chudley, who died age 49.
In 2003 Mum went for a routine check up and it was discovered by chance she had kidney cancer. Her cancer progressed very quickly and during the next few months she spent a great deal of time in the London Bridge Hospital and the local Spire Hospital near our family Home. Her cancer never stabilised and during this time spent more than several weeks being looked after in the Hospice in the Weald in Tunbridge Wells. Mum passed away in the Hospice after a gallant fight in March 2004, less than 7 months after diagnosis. Mum's last 3 months were a terrible time for the whole family. Mum had a great zest for life and never gave up hope even in the darkest hours.
Ironically, Mum worked for the Hospice raising funds from her many contacts to build the present Hospice in the Weald. My Dad and I are so grateful for the care and help they gave in our hour of great need. Although only 7 years old at the time I remember the staff who cared for Mum as well as my Dad and I, and I hope by raising at least £2,500 for Hospice in the Weald I can allow other families to receive the same care and support that we did.
The London Marathon is being held on the 21st April 2024, which falls the month after the 20 year anniversary of my Mum's death, making this a very emotional milestone.
Hospice in the Weald seeks to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of adults and children with a terminal or life-limiting illness, helping them live as fully as they can for the precious time they have left. Not only this they also support carers, family members and close friends, both during a person's illness and during / after bereavement.
Hospice in the Weald is free of charge and rely on fundraising to be able to provide the highest quality of support and care they can - so please take some time to donate to this great charity.
