We help people with learning disabilities to have a stronger, louder voice in England

Story

Too many people with learning disabilities have died preventable deaths in care situations in England. Scandal after scandal happens and the usual 'lessons learned' stuff is trotted out without really changing things. The families of young people who have had their lives cut short in care are starting to shout about it. The families of Connor Sparrohawk (#JusticeforLB), Thomas Rawnsley and Nico Reed are demanding justice and demanding that people with learning disabilities be valued the same as everyone else.

Sara Ryan (Connor's mum) and George Julian dreamt up this wonderful walk to come to near where I live in Aviles, Asturias to the place where we will celebrate Connor's life and the lives of others who have died preventable deaths in England on the 2nd December 2016 for International Day of People with Disabilities. The #JusticeforLB quilt will be displayed in the Centro Niemeyer along with all the contributions to the campaign made by a crowdsourced bunch of people who cared. See here http://justiceforlb.org/

I'll be walking part of the walk from 29th October to the 3rd November. I will walk for Connor, Danny, Thomas and Nico because putting one foot in front of the other is better than sitting raging at my computer screen at all the injustice. Feeling love and the pain of blisters will be better than feeling impotence. Raising money for people with learning disabilities to have a real voice and change how society values them is my long term goal so anything raised will go towards providing media training for people with learning disabilities. If you can contribute a little or a lot, please do.
